Exploring the World's Best Smelling Forest, Magoroto, Tanzania
A friend of mine and I try to go on one trip a year together. A year or two back, we flew down to Dar Es Salaam and took a 7 hour bus ride filled with chickens and shenanigans down to Magoroto Forest.
Now, if you have seen @magoroto.forest ‘s Instagram feed you will understand the deep sense of desire that had us willing to get there by any means necessary.
It remains for me the best smelling forest I have ever been in. Intertwined in those trees are vanilla, cloves and cardamom plants.
That the thing about travel isn’t it? It’s an urge for a fix. Or as Kelly Donnelly éloquently puts it, “... the travel bug, (is) the effort to return to a place where you are surrounded by people who speak the same language as you. Not English or Spanish or Mandarin or Portuguese, but that language where others know what it’s like to leave, change, grow, experience, learn, then go home again and feel more lost in your hometown than you did in the most foreign place you visited. This is the hardest part about traveling, and it’s the very reason why we all run away again.
Magoroto Forest Estate in Tanga, Tanzania is a forest retreat has a tropical rain-forest climate and is the perfect getaway with loads of activities to keep you busy in the estate.
Enjoy mountain climbing, spice farm exploring, cycling and swimming and rafting for hours in the warm catfish filled waters of its artificial lake.
And best of all, make sure to ask Jeremiah from the estate to make you their signature tea. A delightful blend of cardamom, cinnamon and cloves boiled for hours to accompany all meals at the gorgeous estate. You will need it after all the activities that you engage in throughout the day!
